Default Series 2 Temp problem (Advice/ideas pls)

I have a problem with the running temperature on my Rst, i've had the car a year and to b honest i should of sorted this first!! The car seems to gradually get hotter and hotter and would definately run straight into the top of the temp gauge and cook itsself, i do have a switch in-car to keep the fan on permanently which does help somewhat although when im on the go theres enough air flow to keep it cool without,

Its when i come to a stop and leave it runnin, slowly it will creep higher and higher which leaves it very risky when sat in traffic, i've currently taken the Thermostat out which obviously does delay the cooking but also cant be good for the car (mixture wise) so i really need to get somethin done asap, b4 the hot summer!!!!!!
The heads been port & polished i hear this does make a difference but i cant see it making it this bad???

If any of u guys could give me some ideas or have had the same prob i'd be grateful 4 sum help

cheers

Crappy rad?

Old coolant?

Crappy gauge?

As long as the fan cycles on and off you are ok.

Could just be the same problem mine had buddy, where the gauge was reading higher than what the temp actually was. I changed the sender and the gauge read spot on from then on.

What i mean is the car may not be getting that hot at all, just that the gauge is telling you it is

You could try removing the sender and putting it in a kettle ( wired up so the gauge still works and obviously with the kettle outside, not the car in the kitchen ) and see what your gauge reads whilst the kettle boils (it'll boil at 97degrees )

if it is reading way high before the kettle boils then you'll be fine, but obviously change it

could also have a thermometer in the kettle too, just to be sure

I'l answer all questions in 1 post its easier ,

The gauge is definately spot on Mart , The fan cuts in on its own yeh its only on the switch cos of this problem,

The water pump is one option but im not sure its that im def gettin a good flow,

And the heaters are blowin warm too

If the fan is cutting in but not cooling it down and the temp is still rising, then id say it is Head gasket or head. Might only be very slight, making it overheat the water on tickover, whereas normal driving will keep it cool.

Hope it isnt, but from what you have said thats what id be thinking..

dont need a light you can hear it bubbling! Let it get up to high temp, remove header tank cap with a rag and see if it bubbles
