Default Remapping

When a Naturally Aspirated engine receives a remap, along with a free'r flowing air filter and cats back stainless exhaust, does the torque increase proportionally with the horsepower?

Cheers

horsepower is a calculation of torque vs rpm

therefore you cannot increase the power without inceasing the torque.

it may not increase the PEAKS, but it will increase at some point in the rev range.

normally when you're increasing peak BHP you're pushing the torque at the top end of the rev range up

Varies massively, sometimes you just end up with more power because the torque curve is extended up the rev range further, but with little or no change in peak torque, somethimes the torque increases quite a lot.

obviously on a screamer like most honda VTEC's, I can understand the torque increases being fairly minimal, but what about on a 2.5ltr, straight 6, 24 Valve, BMW M54 engine thats pretty torquey to begin with (180lb/ft vs 190bhp)

If the volemtric effiency of the engine at the point of peak torque is currently hampered by the standard exhaust and filter or if at that point in the rev rnage more timing is safe then YES it will increase, however if its mapped well to begin with and the standard exhaust and filter are well suited to the engine at that point in the rev rnage then gains will be none or slim or MAY even be losses!
