Ferrari FXX at $1.8m
Ferrari also calls the FXX a prototype, but it's a production car by definition because the company is selling it for about $1.8 million.
It's also a modified version of Ferrari's last supercar, the Enzo, with almost 500 pounds of curb weight stripped out of it and a larger 6.2-liter version of the Enzo's 6.0-liter V12. Power is up from the Enzo's mere 660 hp and 485 lb-ft to 800 hp and 508 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the F1 transmission shifts almost twice as quick, and the FXX has a new aerodynamics system that supplies 40-percent more downforce than the Enzo's bodywork. Ferrari says the car will hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

What's Special About It?
"FXX is not the name of the car, but the name of the project — the development of our next supercar," said Ferrari Deputy Managing Director Amedeo Felisa.

By April 2006, Ferrari will have built exactly 29 examples of the FXX, all pre-sold. "The clients were selected by committee at Ferrari," Toscan Bennett, director of public relations for Ferrari North America, told us. The committee took into account each customer's relationship to the company, the cars he's purchased over the years, and his passion for the brand. In addition to his financial solvency, of course.
There's a good reason for all the red tape. Once you have the keys to an FXX, you're expected to show up for an advanced driving course at Ferrari's Fiorano circuit in Italy. And once you're up to speed, you'll participate in 14 track events in Europe, Japan and North America — always with the support of your very own team of Ferrari technicians. If you want to garage your FXX in Maranello, Ferrari will take charge of transporting it to each event. You can also take the FXX out for some open lapping by yourself, but it's not legal to drive on public roads.
"Obviously, we have plenty of factory test-drivers," said Andy Shaffer, head of product management, events and sales training for Ferrari NA, "but we wanted to get feedback from the real-world people who own these cars."
