My guess, from that time, would be an 8, at 170mph+

Thin Jensen did it in 8.6 or something? I dare say if they were pushed they could do it in a quicker time, he was barely launching it.. but I don't think its very easy to launch a 700hp RWD lightweight car lol.

`97 Stewart F1 Car will do 8.60 @ 147MPH quarters ( 0-60 = 3seconds, 0-100 = 4.6 seconds)
I would expect newer F1 cars (or at least the last of the V10's) would be quicker, especially the better funded teams with more powerful engines, the Zytec-R used in the Stewart car was only about 700BHP.
There's also a ex-F3000 (Lola T90/50) car with a Cossie DFR motor in it which is used as a sprint car which does 0-60 in 2.2, 0-100 in 4.21 and the quarter in 8.44 @ 148mph. Thats with only 600BHP

The problem is that up to about 100mph,the F1 car couldn't put down full power, until the aerodynamics started to work properly.
I suppose on sticky slicks,on a drag strip,it would do much better!

copy and pasted :
Formula 1 Grand Prix Car: Williams/BMW 2000, 3 litre V10, 800 BHP, 0-100 in 1.2 second, Formula 1 speed record: 386 kph
i'm sure i heard/read before that F1's do 100mph under 2secs

0-100 in 1.2 is quicker / as quick as a 7000bhp nitro-methane burning top fuel dragster.. those figures must be wrong!

The 8.6@147mph is a 100% factual figure - not something I heard somewhere or something I vaguely remember but I would expect the last of the V10's with near on 200+ BHP more than the old Zytec-R powered Stewart car would be a little quicker over a 1/4 of a mile but I have no certain figures for them... would guess at low to mid 8's though
