Right then; I've got a Smart roadster sat here (don't ask) and it has benefitted from an engine-transplant...basicly someone decided that a GSX-R1000 engine would be a far better choice for a powerplant and right they were!

Trouble is: the clutch is like an on/off-switch...the mastercylinder is a Girling 625 (atleast from what I can make out it say's 625) and I'm thinking it would benefit from a mastercylinder wich is SMALLER so you have a more precise feel and therefor greater control over the clutch...

What size mastercylinder would you advise?
The car is a project destined for another country and my mate (who owns it) is getting rather worried...

Sounds like a properly interesting little car, get some pics up

Bare in mind if you go too small on the master cylinder you may not have enough travel.

Can you measure the amount of travel available on the pedal and how much travel you have per inch of pedal travel at the clutch end?

http://www.apracing.com/car/cylinder/index.htm

.625 is the smalest girling you can get IIRC...

Thing is that the slave is a motorbike item (Hayabusa) and I'm not quite sure how I could fit anything else in the available space...

The car is very good to drive, the only thing that let's it down is that poxy clutch...

if you can't change the master cylinder bore diameter, can't you change the leverage?

think about the original application of the slave on the haybusa. are the clutches progressive on those? if so, why? is it a smaller master cylinder diameter?

I'm sure .625 is as small as they go.
Could you re-drill the pedal to change the fulcrum ratio?

ap will actually do a smaller cylinder pal , i think 14mm is what they will do where as 0.625 = 15.875mm - may help . if not youve plenty to be going on with pal !!

I've taken the clutch-assembly out and what I'm doing now is changing the leverage on the pedal in relation to the master cyllinder

As for pics: these are a couple of the car whilst we were stripping it down, new pics after it has been re-built, resprayed and so on...

From my experience with standard car (which is fucked up with electronics) it must be stunning car to drive. Always though they would make incedible track cars.
