you have to receive the ticket within 14 days of the offence, if its a speeding camera. You will receive a form asking who was driving, you then have to return that (not sure within what timescale). After that you will receive the from telling you of the offence and the fine/penalty. You can ignore it if you wish, or follow one of a few different avenues, go checkout http://forums.pepipoo.com/ for information on the process and your alternatives.
The 6 months limit is for whether the Police decide to procecute or not.
Im quoting from memory, checkout pepipoo for the full SP

Rob was on the old Road going to Cardiff, take a left by the Garden centre on that dual road by there its a 30mph
Yeah if you dont get the fine in 2 weeks its void. but just wondering if people got it a day or two after the offence or just towards the end of the two week period

They usually arrive within 2-3 weeks but if you take it to court etc they have to prosecute you within 6 months - if its a day over the judge will throw it out and will refund you with costs etc
It does happen! Happened to 3 of my mates so far when they've been stopped by the police for doing more than 30Mph over the limits - 2 of them didnt hear anything from them at all & 1 went to court but it was 1 day over the 6 months and the judge dismissed it
I wasnt so lucky though!

30mpg, now I know you drive a diesel so a 30mpg must at least be a 70mph area. In which case you should be fine as you were only doing 50mph

Rhys - is the car you were driving registered to you?
If so, it's 14 days.
If not, they have 14 days to contact the registered keeper, after that I think a NIP in your name has to arrive with you no more than 6 months after the offence
Neil.

If the cars not registered to you mate they have 6 months to track you down unless your old dear is willing to tell them to fook off after the 14 days. The 14 days is for the NIP to be sent not received.
