Mine does this, irritating as hell. I normally login to my mail account through the web to confirm the password. if this works, I try and connect through Outlook again and it seems to work. Think the authentication server the ISP has is a bit shit.

If its a laptop, make sure your number lock isn't on.

Outlook express is notorious for this. Check you have all the updates for it. Whose your ISP out of curiosity?

Freeswerve?? Not my favourite ISP. Try the web mail section on the website, at least you can confirm for definite your password works before spending three hours on the phone talking to Sharon in a call centre in Calcutta

Try this out, have had similar issues with this before in Outlook (and other e-mail clients)

Go to Tools -> Accounts -> Choose the e-mail account in question -> Properties button -> Servers tab -> Check the 'My server requires authentication' tab and click ok.

Try Send/Receive again and see if that works, if not then contact your ISP about it after having a look through their FAQ's (usually found on their website).

Cheers,

Andy

My parents have had this for at least 3 years and I never hear the end of it. I also have the issue at work bu thats with exchange so is slightly different and involves the authentication and response time.

There are a number of "suggestions" online but as yet I have found none that fully work. A good place to start looking is www.experts-exchange.com

That is a very good forum and that problem is mentioned on there a number of times. I have found temporary solutions but it comes back. Absolute pain and if anyone does know how to get rid of it, let me know too!
