If you can get a ford apprenticeship then do so as its one of the best you can get although as mentioned it is very hard to get in. I done my apprenticeship at ford and it was the best move i ever made, i am still at ford nearly 15 years later!

Ive finished my apprentiship for vauxhall, to be honest the pay is crap (Ł6.75). At the end of the day thats all it comes down to.. Getting payed well. And unless theres work there to earn bonus off, ya screwed! Everything has moved towards electronic diagnostic testing, so go towards learning about that if you choose the motor trade, just being a tech is bad payed and pretty stressfull sometimes

If its what you want to do mate - then go for it - but if you've got any electronics knowledge i'd suggest you look more at the diagnostics side of things...
It's the way its all going

do you want to do an apprenticeship at just a local dealers?
if so your probably best to drop in with a cv and letter.
if it was something more like the engine plant at dagenham you was looking at there is a website but that says they are not taking people on at the moment.
pop down the job centre and ask them for some advice as well.
good luck

Remember that nearly every franchised dealership is an independent business that just happens to sell/service Ford, Vauxhall, BMW etc under a contractual arrangement with the manufacturer.
Their training should involve manufacturer input to ensure you meet their standards as well as NVQ (or whatever they are called this year!) qualifications.
