was driving down the middle of the road at 11:45pm with my wheels crossing the tram tracks. Doing about 40-45 in a 30.

The German traffic cops pulled me over and asked for my License and Vehicle ID.

I of course gave him my 19 canteen UK driving license from 1976, its about the size of an A4 (almost A3) sheet of paper. He shone a torch at it and the light practically went straight through, the paper was so thin. He read it for about half a second and tried to fold it back up again. Christ I can hardly do that, I was impressed.

He asked if I could speak 'Deutsch', a little I said.
Then he asked if I lived here, I said yes and commented about how the bad weather had created potholes in the nearside of the road.

He laughed and said yes, but please to remember people usually drive on the RHS here in Germany. Basically, 'dont do it again.

As he spoke we both looked up the road and more cars were coming down the middle, he shook his head and told me to go... lucky break.

I didn't hesitate.
