gt 35 compressor stall

Like any large turbo onto a YB, surge is always an issue. It's imperative to get the spec right of both the turbo AND engine.
Unfortunetly I can't offer any help as I didn't build the engine and as such there's too much guess work required in diagnosing possible problem areas.

Turbinator, Were you running a Dumpvalve on these cars?
Karls, Martins, and my Turbo that did the Gumball have had NO problems at all in the cars....all running over 600bhp reliably. Not heard of any problems with these Turbos at all apart from what YOU have alledged happened. They DO need to be watercooled and run dumpvalves though.
Be interesting as more and more people use these Turbos and I think you will be proved to be very wrong!
Is your. Karls, Martins. a straight off the shelf turbo or one from custom parts ???
Porkie, dont take it personally, i just ventilated my opinion from my experience with them a few years back...
And i am open minded to other experiences, so I would be very happy to be proven wrong in the future so I can learn and might also try a rollerbearing once again .. But for the moment there not fitted on my cars because of the reasons I stated earlier..

turbinator,
The GT range use BALL bearing technology NOT roller-bearings, and it is a new concept, so the testing you did years ago is not applicable to these turbos!
I ran my old GT turbo for 15,000miles and upon strip down the ball bearings were as NEW!!!!

Your car is fooking loverly and without trying to sounds a cont it's at the wrong place IMO for the kind attention to detail I know your be loooking for. Any of the following would have been more suitable IMO:
Reyland, Zoo, Karl @ NMS or Stu/Kenny at MSD..........
(in no particular order!!)
Cheers,
Dan

Dan....too late now!!
I was recommended (pushed!) to SCS by a friend who is a very leading turbocharger supplier so I'm sure it'll be fine! From the technical conversation I had with Harvey last week as we pushed my car off the transporter, he seemed to know why what happened did. I hope so anyway.

I have no doubt Harvey will work out the problem and build you a nice new 'cheap' engine (with half the bolts missing or stripped!!LOL) but the installation/attention to detail will be a complete joke so be prepared and also be prepared to not see your car for months either!!LOL

When tuning a YB to these levels, failures can/will happen unfortunately. It's all about how the cutomer is treated IF the worst happens, that's what gets a company a good reputation!

just so many cars that have been setup there seem to let go
dont u map within limits to allow for variables and map it "safely" rather for all out power ?
also i think ians was a special condition
high compression and 30psi boost + on 8 light blues

If yall actually knew the story, itd make more sence.
The bills.
The place the wastegate was mounted
The fact that the engine blew twice in a row, both times literally within seconds of the first time foot was put to the floor.
The fact that the boost was going sky high due to where the wastegate was put means as far as i can see it was not road tested at all and i cant even see how it was mapped in that situation either...
Ians not saying "Im not happy with EA and not using them again as they made the car throw a rod"
Way more into it than that, i mean a car throwing a rod could be bad luck...

then I have some questions for you...
why is it then that NOT ONE car uses the ball/rollerbearing in rally ??
not even on THIS day!!
and we got our hands on this new technology very early.. and none of the engines made it to the finish line.. as with the none rollerbearing/ballbearing turbos we get there almost always..
I will not trust this ball/roller/ blabla bearing on a track when I go flat out for 5 laps in a row.. I do trust my 247 shafted turbo with this...
because i do this often!!
maybe you can trust this going in a straight line and sometimes nailing it to the floor.. but that aint the way my rightfoot behaves..

Having seen a certain person's engine off here (fitted with a GT35), if Cossie400s is anything like that, then the person concerned should not be allowed to design these type of installs, as he hasn't got a fucking clue . All engines built to this spec are ticking time bombs just waiting to explode....
Using EGR tubes for the wastegate feed .

For the "non technical" types (me), what are EGR tubes? Why are they unsuitable for the job?
And, what is the proper way to to it?
Very curious

I dont belive for one second the car was test driven or even mapped properly by EA as it wouldve been impossible with as good as no wastegate flow, so unlimited boost...

They are tiny.
A proper wategate position will be coming off the ex manifold where the 4 pipes joins to 1, and of a suitable size (ie no smaller than the wastegate opening).
