The damper rating should be stamped on the piston.
To get it out there should be a nut on the bottom of the strut, can sometimes be a pain to undo if they havn't been looked after. There should also be a small drain hole which usually gets blocked up, good idea to clean that too

Cool
I thought they may be Bilstein! They are just what i wanted before i decided to sell my car!
This nut on the bottom for removing them is a puzzle though as i thought i could just undo the pinch bolt as per usual to take them off?
Phil there are pics on another thread of mine from yesterday entitled "This car just wont die"
Cheers for your help fellas

the nut underneath is to remove the insert from the strut body !!
Thought so Mark just Rus's post threw me a bit he obviously meant for removing the inserts!

Mark these restrictors on the turbo do i have to replace the comp housing to remove it? This has a Maram shafted T3 42/48 but has a tiny restrictor on the comp housing!

no m8 just make a flange for the front
from this
havnt got any piccys of the flange on the front , if ya want to have a look ill go into the garage and take ya some piccys , but its just a bolt on flange to the normal 60mm or what ever inlet size you want to use ,
and yes a remap IS ESSENTIAL believe me , when kenny did mine we mapped it restricted 1st and all was sorted , removed the restrictor and it fookin detted like a bastard , fook all fuel at the top end m8 , as thats what the restictor does , just chokes the top end boost , had to put multipliers in at the top for 403's !! goes mint tho !

I don't know what i am going to do with the engine yet so i'll make the decision re-mapping when i do!
I have a standard comp housing off a T3 here would it not be easier to just bolt that on mate

Coilovers
Hi Spadge
I told you they were 2 1/4 Bilsteins with tarmac 500lb rated springs on the fron and 400lb on the rear. The 909 part number is correct and they are standard fitment for a GRP A rally car unless you can afford a full magnesium setup.
I would be pleased to assist if you ahve any othe questions although it may be awkward to find a PC on holiday.
Good luck with breaking the car.
Regards
Bob

Sorry if I confused you about taking out the inserts to check for the damper ratings Spadge.
Of course to remove the complete strut you would just do it in the normal way
The restrictors my mate makes in the lathe for his cars are always done to a sweat fit. We have to heat up the housing to get them in then let it cool down around it afterwards. If it wont come out it could have been done like that

This restrictor is held in by a picnch bolt at the top and bottom as can be seen in the pic! It then has a piece of wire running through one of them with a seal on it a bit like the ones you see on gas/electric meters so i guess it should slide out if i undo those but the bolt holes will still be there so it will be just as easy to change the comp housing!

The tag is a scruitineer checking item. It shows if the restrictor (or turbo) has been tampered with after its been checked with their verniers for size compliance.
It will have some numbers / markings on it which can be traced back through the powers that be if the car has a motorsport log book.
A taper threaded plug is sometimes used to bung up the holes left by these sort of grub screw restrictors after removal.
Are you gonna use it (the car) or break it ?
