Which motorbike??
I am thinking about getting a bike for the summer, I have had me licence 7 years but never had a bike , The 3 choices I have come up with are 1) Ducati 996/916 2) Suzuki GSX-R 1000 or 3) Suzuki GSX-R 750. I recon the 996 and 750 would be ok for a first bike as they all seem to get good reviews, but the lure of a 1000 for a couple of quid more is really appealing . My personal choice would be the 996 but the sensible choice would be a jap inline 4- what you recon guys?

I wouldn't get the ducati for a 1st bike, the twins are harder to ride than the 4's (in the slow manouvering sense) and may not give you confidence to advance your riding IMO.
Either the 750 or 1000 would be my advice
I've had both the gsxr 750 and 1000 (both 2002's) and I've ridden a 916, if you like the idea of a twin for some reaon the SP1/SP2's are a much easier ride and feel faster.
I'm not a great fan of the gsxr's though but my choice would be the 1000 as it's got some reasonable grunt.

First bike... hmm id consider the gsxr 600 or the 750 depending on how comftable you feel with the power, and nothing TOOOO pretty cause accidents do happen, as i found out

I would have a year with a 600cc bike to get back into it tbh. Jumping straight on a Gixer 1000 after a few years out of the bike scene is a recipe for disaster. I have not had a big bike for a while and took a ZX10R for a test ride and just about shat myself

Always fanced a 916 shape Ducati.
I have to say that maybe a litre Superbike may not be the best choice of first bike. Especially after a multi year lay up. BABs are the majority of statistics sadly.

Been thinking about it for ages , insurance is going to be about £1000 on anything, the difference between a 600 and 1000 GSX-R was less than £200 fook knows why that is, I have no bike NCB but full car, and will have a clean licence when I get back from the sunny falklands the choice will ultimatly be between a gixxer of whatever capacity or a 996/916, as I love both of the marques, thing is its the old heart vs head thing
Ducati- awsome looks/sound , reputedly awsome handing, but fragile/expensive to run/fix and don't like being wheelied apparently, as they spit oil out the breather
Suzuki- Cheapish, fast as fook ,reliable, nice lookin etc, take loads of abuse, but no way near as characterful as a ducati, and theres millions of them round, so resale will be a bit harder
Not really a mega aprilla fan, or honda and I already got a cossie robrs lol just fancy a bike to fook about on in the summer

many do try to be the fastest/best bike around but for me there are only two to chose from at the moment , 1, suzuki hyabusa, 2, kawasaki ZX12R, these truly are the fastest two bike around STILL at the moment, the litre bikes are fast, but on the out and out there are only two contenders.
depends on what you want out of your bike, i wanted a fast bike i could cruise two up, without a sweat, and being a big person, needed the comfort, i didnt find it with the litre bikes. the 12 did it for me, love my bike, will eat anything in a straight line, will stay with 99% of the bikes on the road in the handling.
remember , it will only go as fast as you want it to
