Default quick question - motorbike? average power output?

what would you say was a average power ouput for motorbike on the road?

as in id say the average car on the road has about 120bhp, most family kinda cars etc circa that value.

what would you say in a bike?

(just a random question to help me with an assignment - as im not too clued up on bikes so my guess of 80bhp may be proper crap)

average power output including ALL bikes on the road (trails, etc) would be around 50 / 55 bhp ish
not more

what kinda bike we talking about.?

i'd say a 750 would have about 80-100 bhp and obviously going upwards as you get quicker bikes

Balls out turbo'd hayabusas have about 250 ish (I think)

I'm probly talkin bollox, but well

If you're talking sports bikes 600s are around 100-120bhp going up to thing like Kawasaki ZX12R's which claim aroung 180bhp

Have your sports bikes still got that 100bhp restriction over there Pet?

all the above... ill prob edge my bets at circa 60bhp.....

basically ive got an assignment to roughly design an air cooled cylinder head for a motorbike engine.

by putting shed loads of cooling fins on it (heat sink style) then I calculate that I can lose about 126kw worth of heat. (126kw i.e. 170bhpish)
now Im pretty sure that this 'motorbike' engine will never need to lose anywhere near that much heat.... and my reasoning is gonna be... it only abouts 45kw... so even if 50% efficient in terms of heat generation to power its only generating a max of 90kw....

make sense?? no thought not ---- im more than late with it and its gotta be in tomorrow!! pmsl

gurnE --> yes, when you buy them, but you don't have to keep the restriction. It's only a out-of-shop restriction which you now have the right to remove

Honda has started work on a big-capacity " hyperbike " using a V5. The 1200-1300cc machine will replace the CBR1100XX Super Blackbird. The five-cylinder configuration should give it an edge on rival fours like the Kawasaki ZX-12 and Suzuki Hayabusa, with a power output close to 200bhp.
now thats quick for a n/a bike no weight etc

Yamaha R6 2004 is 90.5 kW (123hp) @ 13,000 rpm

Suzuki gsx-r 600 is about 110 hp, but Suzuki's are usually rated less than other bikes

Honda CBR600RR is 115 bhp at 13,000 rpm

Kwaki ZX-6R is 118ps (whatever PS is!!!)

lol, yes, i'm bored as fcuk

pmsl - now pet I know you are the super board running master etc! but you are managing to back date your posts a bit??!! its like the old problem with the user clock settings? has that gone a miss?

there is a yellow duke I like (i dont know bikes as I said!) that id seen once in flux's garage at brands. had cool wheels on it - bit like car alloys designed looked superb! and different in yellow!!!

stu - or anyone else pretty good with engines etc... the efficiency thing i mentioned - what would be a reasonable efficiency to guess at - i.e. total power output without any losses ---- compared to losses etc and flywheel output?

Yes Adam, but better put the R6 on the rolling road to verify this, cause they usually tend to lose 35 BHP between the paper and the real figures at Yamaha !

Melv --> yes i had a fooked up cookie, sorry for this

999 has to be seen a lots of time to appreciate it. But i think it will also become a standard as years pass. It has to last 10 years, don't forget !

But anyway, i'm with you, I will never prefer the 999 to the 998
