A lot of people do not like to use them as a lot of people have had cracked blocks from using them. Whether this is purely because people did not know the torqueing values correctly or otherwise I don't know, hence why I said be careful with them

It does seem to only be on big BHP cars though

I specifically went for this because my 205 block cracked between the head bolts and the water jackets and i thought this was supposed to be a lot stronger and avoid this!

Surely as the studs are longer and you are not turning them whilst torqueing down, its going to be stronger?

Ive been told you can torque down more with this type of block, hence safely running more boost?

I know mate, I saw your original post where you'd taken the head off and found the cracks

Don't fret about it, unless you're running mega power i'm sure you'll be just fine!

Best of luck rebuilding it!

you'll need the head machining for them nuts as you wont be able to get a socket on the nuts in the head (as i found out when i was fittin the head, only to have to strip all the valves out again to clean after machining ) you only need a couple of mil machining out round the 6 head bolt holes for clearance. this shouldn't cost much at a local machine shop. best of luck with the re build

thought about that but the socket would have to be so thin that it would break long before you got anywhere near the torque settings

Machining the socket down is fine and will work so long as you make sure its a good quality socket in the first place,

Unless of corse you have a 3dr head in which case you will have to do some work to the head

Those studs look like they could be upside down though????

Hard to tell from that photo so could be wrong,

you cant put all 8 long studs in as it will catch on the waterpump at the front
