Default Good loan companies for less than stellar credit histories?

Anybody know of any that are willing to give you a chance if you don't have a great credit history? Never had a CCJ but have had lots of missed payments on things over the last few years. Other than a credit card debt that I have only just started paying back though, I've hardly missed a beat since September. Just a couple of car insurance payments havce bounced first time round, purely due to mix ups.

Looking at around £4k over 3 years ideally. Don't want to get raped on interest. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

will all due respect, wasnt you the chap that had bailiff letters as you owed a bit of money?

to be honest.. I would concentrate on paying back the cash, then possibly looking into a loan.

I know its none of my business, but depending on what the cash is for.., then maybe it could wait.

I only say all this as when I was 18 I got myself a loan. Only 2k, but because I could just ring up and say, I want another grand, I had money which wasnt mine.. After 4 years, its all paid off thank fuck.. Just think loans are too easy to get when the reason alot of people get them is because they cant get by on the money they earn,,,

All im saying is, think twice...

Nowadays, I owe no one any money and if I want something.. I save for it.. best way..

I just need to get myself a decent car in April mate. I'll go insane if I don't.

If I scrape by, I can do it and I'm fully prepared to do it

After reading (and trying to help) on your bailif post I can't believe you are looking at a loan to buy a decent car!

But still it's your life and I made the same mistakes.

You are going to really struggle to get a loan if you have missed payments from the past few years, it's those that really sting you because it tells the creditors you don't communicate when you have problems. A good history from September onwards just isn't good enough.

Another thing is if you do find someone willing to credit you a loan they might raise the interest rate due to thinking you are high risk.

Try Nothern Rock.

Yeah I know. The bailiff debt thing was bad at the time as I was in a shitty position but from next month my emergency tax situation should be well sorted and I will have a bit extra each month that could go on a car loan.

Look, I know it's a bit saft, and I accept that. But I love cars. They are my passion. If I don't get something nice and quick that I can enjoy I'll end up going out of my mind.

I guess my heart is ruling my head somewhat.

I'm afraid the likliehood is you WILL get shafted on the rate mate........there are so many lenders out there now offering stupid rates for what are deemed A1 credits but that could work in your favour as alot are writing business now they wouldn't normally. That doesn't mean they will or won't lend you money but you will pay for it..........spent 17 years in finance mate and lending is what I do for a living.........word of warning. Don't go sending off application sto everyone you can find because they are all listed and if lenders (me included) see loads of app's it rings warning bells.........that doesn't look good on your credit record either !!!
