it's where extra capacity is added to the sump to increase the amount of oil it will hold,

this makes oil surge less likely during heavy braking/cornering ( where the oil surges to one side of the sump and leaves the crank running dry)

also helps keep oil temps lower too i beleive

only downside is oil changes cost more.

Martin Hadland makes them i think, and can probably do any capacity required (extra 1 litre,2litre etc)_

This engine i built has one from martin on it. If you look at teh sump you can see how an extra "Wing" has been welded on.

The 2wd's have a wing either side, the 4wd onlty the one due to teh front differential being on the other side.

Ryan,
There is nothing wrong with the standard set-up with a big wing set up. I have the exact same thing on my car, and have NEVER had any oil surge problems .

how are ur wings done?

as this is my main concern for changing for a standard baffle.

are the sides of your sump drilled to slow the flow to the wings?

got told the sump i bought was of a race car,not too sure if it is though.

mine has a flap in it to slow the surging i think.

been strengthened too.
