Chop - Think the tank/filter/pump/heater cabinet was about £600 (You get a lot if you buy it all at once.)
Then he brought some stones/slate/plants...for decoration
You have to let the water get filtered for about 6 weeks before any fish can be introduced...
This site taught me everything

Marine tanks are a total twat to keep! You have to be on the ball with salt levels/temp etc etc otherwise you start losing fish...
One of the biggest problems is the marine fish are about 25-100quid a FISH Not like the usual fiver+ for tropical ones...
So keeping the tank under control is a tough job but in Dans case can be very very rewarding

jewel tanks are about the best tanks you can get. they come with everything you need.....lights, internal filter, heater, just add sand and water and fish....lol...the heater sits inside the internal filter so keeps it looking tidy. I got 3 discus fish some black widows, albino algea eaters, bristlenose catfish and there babies, harlequins, rummynose tetras, cardinal tetras, lemon tetras, and clown loach.
Finally a topic i know quite a bit about...lol
also if you like neon tetras then i would get the cardinal tetras instead as they look almost the same but the dont carry neon tetra disease.....always quarrentine for 4 weeks before adding new fish or buy from a good dealer who quarrentines there fish. Need any help gimme a shout.

I bought my first tank setup (2ft) from the local garden centre for £80. a few quid for a background, gravel and plants and your away. Bought a plec, neons, black mollys, leopard danios, and a few barbs. All living well apart from i have regular executions with the mollys as they breed monthly...
Been looking at a marine setup recently but it worked out for a decent tank with live rock and fish all finished would be near enough 2k! So im just getting a bigger tropical tank

Symptoms
This disease was originally described in Neon Tetras, but can affect many other species of fish. In Neons, one of the early signs of this disease is a loss of the red colour, and difficulty swimming Note that there is a so-called "false neon disease", which is bacterial, and shows very similar symptoms. It is impossible for the home aquarist to determine for certain the difference between NTD and false NTD on the basis of visible symptoms alone, without laboratory backup. This disease has also been confused with Columnaris.
Causes
The disease is caused by a microsporidian parasite. The disease is most likely to be passed on from newly acquired fish, which have not been quarantined.
Possible cures
These parasites are very resistant to medications, and there are no proven effective treatments. Some anti-parasite medications claim to treat this disease, but there effectiveness is debatable. Some apparant 'cures' may have been the result of successful treatment of false-NTD. The best course of action is to isolate sick fish quickly, and maintain good water quality to reduce the chances of more fish succumbing to the disease. The use of a diatom filter, which can reduce the number of free parasites in the water, may help.
this is a pretty good link: http://203.116.88.76/content/phase1/...tor_Other.html
BTW cardinal tetras dont seem to suffer from NTD and they look exactly the same except the red strip goes all the way along the body unlike the neon whos red stripe runs from the tail about a quarter along the body.
I had a case of NTD in my tank and it wiped out all my glowlight tetras and harlequins.......if you are unlucky and get an outbreak remove any dead or dying fish ASAP cos if your other fish eat them they eat the spores that carry NTD and then they get affected. if you get NTD and it seems like it is no longer present dont add any new fish for at least 6 months and when you do make sure there quarrentined.
