Default Multilayer steel gasket help pleeeeease

I got a 6 layer steel head gasket, and i think some oil has got in between the layers. Clean oil mind, not old oil.

Will it be ok to torque the head down with the gasket as it is? Or will the oil boil inside the layers and fuck it up?

cheers

Needs to stay dry, oil by its very nature resists compression. I would buy another personally unless you can dry that one out succesfully.

As Stu said SPence dry it out properly or get another one.

6 layers is a hefty gasket.

I know Has to be, its had a good head and block skim.

Its a Z20LET gasket modified to fit C20LET/XE blocks, the rivets have been drilled out so the layers are all seperate from each other.

Its a shame i have to dismantle it again, i had it lined up perfectly

Cheers Stu + Rich, Much appreciated

Spence, what gasket is it?

6 layers to me sounds like a modified one based on two z20let gaskets, is that the case?

Pass, never tried.

Ive reused a cometic MLS one, but it had only been clamped down, not actually run when i took it apart.

Well Stu recently took a customers engine apart due to a faulty oil pump he was supplied, and he posted on here that he had to replace the gasket, so he obviously beleives that you cant reuse them.

I heard that cometic gaskets can be reused, I thought that was the whole point of a race/rally gasket? The point being that if there are any problems you can whip the head off, have a look, and replace the gasket.

Personally, for £100 that the cometic gaskets cost, i'd be re-using them

Rich, Ello lol I thought it might have been you that i purchased the LET fuel rail off on ebay.

Also, whilst i'm here Chip & Rich, you wouldn't happen to have a photo of the top of a LET with the turbo plastic cover removed would you? Just need to get a good idea how i've set mine up if its right or not.
