Hi, I have an issue with my car and would be very grateful for your help in helping me diagnose the problem. Can anyone recommend a code scanner for reading engine fault codes on a Mk1 tdci focus (2003 1.8TDCI sport). I borrowed a friends D900 obd2 scanner which turns out to not be compatible. Can anyone confirm if the F Super works on this model or recommend an alternative? Thanks

 

I've got this and it's diagnosed every car I've had it on, don't buy the cheaper Autel units (I did buy a cheaper one previously and it will only look at engine modules), this will literally look at every module on your car (airbag, abs etc etc), and show you any faults in plain English. It's brilliant. Plenty of videos on Youtube too. I've used it on various cars already (Mondeo, Audi TT, MX5 Mk3) and it's worked every time.
My other Autel unit showed no faults on my Mondeo when I knew there was one, it just didn't cover all the systems, make sure you get the version that covers ALL systems.

Thanks for the info. I had to take my car to a mechanic this time to get it plugged in, turned out to be an injector fault. I will have to buy one of these to have for the next time the dash lights up. Thanks again.

 

No problem mate, it sounds a big outlay to start with because obviously you can buy cheaper ones, but they don't do half the things they need to, and use it a couple of times rather than getting charged through the nose for a garage diagnosis and you've paid for it.

 

Forscan and lead is cheap on ebay and covers loads. In fact the software is free the modified elmscan lead is about Ł25 on ebay.

 

Depends what you want it for, I bought a cheaper Autel and it does some stuff, but nothing like the amount of stuff I needed to do. Fixed a fault on my father in law's Peugeot 308 today using it. Brilliant tool, there's plenty of cheap ones though if you don't need to cover everything.

 

OBD II code readers won't work on pre 2004 diesels.
