Default mondeo fuel filter issue

Hi all and how are you, bought a mondeo 1.8lx 2003 petrol and recently having starting issues when less than 50 miles of fuel left in tank (when fuel light comes on) so when investigating I noticed that on the filter where it says "in" 1goes to it but from 2 pipes, 1 looks like it comes from the front of the car and 1 from I assume the tank, as for the "out"pipe that also looks like it goes up to the fuel tank but I can not get in enough to see, does this seem right, thank you in advance

The pipe on the right is connected to "in" of the filter but then goes to the T junction, 1 side of the junction goes to the front of the car and the other seems to go back to the tank, is this right

Default pump

i did the filter on my missus car a 2005 1.8 petrol it was exactly as you pictured
biggest difference i made with her car was gapping the plugs and giving it a good thrashing now and again-goes far better lol
