TDDI Tester
Hi,
Can anyone recommend an OBD2 tester that would read and clear codes on a 2003 Focus tddi 1.8 ?. I hear that this model can be a problem with some scanners.
many thanks in advance.

I'm sure you can just use the dash as a fault reader..
Hold the trip button in, turn the ignition on and keep holding. You should see "test" come up.. Release button. Then cycle through the different modes, needles go to max, display read 8888, engine speed, road speed (you can start her up), engine temp, voltage to name but a few. One will be DTC - it should say the codes.

Thanks for the replies so far.
In summary:
Trouble with crank sensor connector, about to change this.
Engine sometimes momentarily cuts out at low revs, then continues OK.
Engine sometimes cuts out with flashing glow plug light, recycle ignition switch and it will restart.
The start-up trick noted above reads low battery voltage, although battery is really OK.
Not sure which of these is interrelated, so need some more detailed fault data from an OBD scanner.
See my other thread, does anyone have the ECU pinouts for this model ?

Update which may be useful for other owners.
The latest model from Vgate, the VS550 scanner would not connect to car, suspect PWM compatibility issues. This was a shame as others report that it's predecessor did connect with this model.
Ford F SUPER Interface Scanner SCAN TOOL from Ebay was much cheaper and did connect. Once I told (lied !) the scanner that it was connected to a 1.8 TDCI, everything worked. Read and cleared the fault codes and had access to many other parameters.
So fault history cleared with no new fault reports from a short test drive. Let's hope that the cutting out problems have ceased, i'll give that a few days.
Things left to do:-
Replace crank sensor connector
Clean EGR
Change filters.
Clean battery terminals and hope that the stored low volts fault was an old and unrelated event.
tddi ECU pinouts would still be useful if anyone knows where to find them.
many thanks
