I'm sure you can just use the dash as a fault reader..

Hold the trip button in, turn the ignition on and keep holding. You should see "test" come up.. Release button. Then cycle through the different modes, needles go to max, display read 8888, engine speed, road speed (you can start her up), engine temp, voltage to name but a few. One will be DTC - it should say the codes.
