Default Cordless or Corded Impact Wrench ?

Hi all,

I'm in the market for an Impact Wrench, its for Car DIY/Repair use at home so an Air Compressor and gun would be a little OTT

Is a Cordless or Corded Impact Wrench better, given that Corded drills are still better than Cordless, is it the same for Impacts.

If Cordless are the 24V Clarke / Sealys any good, cant stretch to Snap On

Thanks

Ive got a clarke 24v one, works great for wheels and smaller stuff, wont get a crank pulley off or that sort of thing though so I turn to the air one for that.

ive also got a dewalt 18v one, and thats a lot stronger, but still doesnt match the proper airone.

I think the snapon ones are about the only ones that do.

Not sure which one I've got but it has 6 settings and it's undoes everything I've asked it to do so far. Which is not saying a lot but wheel nuts and and bolts and the like as well as putting some bolts into the side of the wall of the house it absolutely spanked everything without a second thought

I've got an 18v Makita impact driver with a 1/6 hex drive, you can use an adapter to fit a socket on the end, works ok for smaller stuff and is nice and light.
Also got a 24v 1/2" Clarke impact gun which I'm a bit disappointed with tbh. The Makita can do most stuff the Clarke can, you just snap the odd adapter but they are only a few quid for a set of three.
I've also borrowed the big 240v Bosch 3/4 drive impact gun from work in the past for crank pulleys, that thing is fooking amazing, there is nothing it won't undo!

i have just ordered the clarke heavy duty one

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...&TC=SRC-clarke

Torque is 450NM which is the same as the nominal torque of snap on one that i was looking at, i have just had a vat free code aswell so got it for Ł119 the lesser model clarke one is only 200nm. Maybe you could ask about / search on the net for a code?

I've got a 3/8 snap on and if does crank pulley bolts, flywheel bolts, etc. Wheel nuts are too much for it but it is the baby one I suppose! Was an unbelievable upgrade from a Clarke one I had prev. They're not cheap ... But if u want a gun that will not let u down it's the only way to go!

Yeah my clarke one is the lower one, my dewalt one is 400NM iirc though.

Some of the snapon ones do quite a bit more than that though IIRC

in that case mate you should be able to get a decent secondhand Snap on CTU4850HO off of ebay OR ring your local dealer and see if he has one that he has taken in P/EX against a new one!!

Do try and and get the HO (High Output) model as its slightly more powerful than the standard CTU4850 and its exactly the same power as the newest CTU6850.

A decent secondhand Snap on Cordless 18v gun will be better and more powerful than any of the other new ones you have mentioned and also if you ever damage it badly Snap on will refurb it for Ł100 regardless of what it needs and it will come back to you looking like new!!
