I use a £250 bosch one, comes with 2 batts, is well worth the money, depending on what you're doing with it, serious amount of kick, but so fkin heavy, man it really is, 19.2 volt.
Just watch the battery type, don't touch one with NI-CD, LI-PO is the best by a very long way, but NI-MH is more common, excellent performance battery wise, but they do tend to discharge quickly when not used/charged, ie if left for a week or so will have lost a bit, but they don't suffer memory effect like the NI-CD ones do, though it should be impossible to get NI-CD as mostly banned now.
I love makita myself, nice light and powerful.

I use a Dewalt DC988 everyday and cant fault it for a hand drill, just got a Li-ion battery aswell and quite impressed with it. If you are wanting bigger drill SDS drill you are better off with a Bosch but I prefer Dewalt's for the smaller drill/drivers.

Some great info there guys I will prob look for something around the 2.5amp hour battery, I wont be using it everyday as its for around the house/garage, but if I buy a decent one I might keep it on my works van as sometimes need a drill at work.
So will I be looking at around £150 to £250 ish then?

take your pick, got makita and bosch.
both brilliant makes, although i prefer the bosch.
they vary from 9.6, 14.4 and 18volts.
the problem i found was that one of the bosch ones only gets occassional use and so the batteries turn to shit after a while and need fully charging, then flatten in seconds, then repeat a couple of times and all is back to normal.
doesn't happen with the makita, but it isn't as old and gets used a little more.

I have the Makita BHP451, great drill 18V, Li-on, 3.0Ah, 3 speed, light for size and plenty for most jobs, although the price seems to have went up, got it for £230 on screwfix 2 years ago, £370 now.

Snap on 18v for me. Nice heavy bit of kit and the batteries also can be used for my cordless windy gun
