Default 2wd cosworth windscreen

I have a split in my screen and it needs replacing, it is a heated screen and it appears to be bonded into place (you can take the rubber seal off and see black glue), is this a diy job or special job for a windscreen fitter?

if its a diy job what will i need and what will a second hand screen set me back

regards

console

ps if its a job for a fitter who is the cheapest home fitter (car is off road)

It is a special job as it needs carefully cutting out. Check out your insurance, you might have windscreen cover and usally you only pay the excess (normally about £50) and it doesn't affect you no claims.

Because it is glued you wont push it out, it will have to be cut out, so yes you will have to go to a place like a/glass, dont know about price but doubt it will be cheap especially as you have a heated screen. If you're getting the car mot'd (presumably so that you can use it on the road) why dont you get the car insured first, sort the screen then get it mot'd. Just an idea.

As above the screen is bonded in so it does need to be profesionally removed, which means it needs to be glued back in.
I priced one before i did the insurance thing and it was in the hundreds.

Would it be possible to get a second hand one off a trader on this site??

My mate replaced his mk3 Golf screen, got one from a brakers which was pre removed.
He looked through the yellow pages and someone fitted it for £20.00 cash in hannd
(probably a fiddle job)

May save some cash this way!!!!!
