Were they genuine Garret actuators?
-31 should be fine I would have thought.

If a minimum boost of 14 psi would suit you, you could use a Garrett -34

A correctly set up -31 should last for 10 years plus.
Half a hole preload and jet Amal valve to suit.
Job done.

In what way did it fail. Is the rod alignment good and as already said how much preload.

I had a -34 on mine and was fine for stg3 23>24psi.

I think whoever installed it our way to much preload on it and the spring has gone weak causing the watergate to open and not hold boost, I'll order -34, set that correctly and fit my new electronic boost controller.

Cheers Jason

I don't think you'll have the same problem if you are fitting a boost controller, you could either use a -34 or -31, the boost controllers solenoid should bleed sufficiently off for either to be used without excessive preloads.
