Default Cut out & won't start

I'd just filled my xr4i up with fuel and gone about 2 miles with it and it cut out. Main beams went off and there was no ignition lights on the dials. I managed to roll it into a layby thankfully. There's no ignition lights, no fuel pump, no starter or any ignition circuit related things working. I checked the fuses and connections at the battery, checked battery voltage with a meter (12v) , shoogeled about some wiring to no avail.

I called my mate for a lift and when he came he checked all the same things again, except when he hit the horn it came back to life and it all seemed to work. It started up and I drove off and made it approximately 500 metres before it cut out again and rolled into a car park.

It had the same problem as before. Removed the steering column plastics hoping that a wire from the ignition barrel was lose but they're all OK. It was midnight and pitch black so I've left it there for the night.

I'm a bit puzzled, hope it's an easy fix. Some pointers and advice will be most appreciated.

I've had the same on my 1600i and it was the ignition switch rob.
We crossed the back of the switch out a all the power came back.
New switch should sort it out

Fingers crossed. I've got 2 ignition switches here to try on, I'll give that a go & see if it works. 🤔
