Default Chassis cracking???

I asked for a price to paint my cossie.

There only seems to be a place with rust and it is pointed in the picture below.

Now, the guy comes to me and says that it could be the chassis that is broken and should need welding and that is a common foul on Saphs and he has done it before... But i've never heard of something like this before!

I have coilovers all round but this was already there before the coilovers.
I don't like to make judgements but this seems like a "con" to me.

Should I dump the guy?

The part of the car that you have indicated in you picture is the rear quarter panel, that has not got anything to do with the rear chassis legs IMO, sounds like the guy is waffling to me

Or it could be like Vauxhall corsa b, where at the bottom of the window line of the B-Pillar, they are prone to cracking!!!

So maybe with the sapphire having coilovers, and its probably past its sell by date, it "may have" cracked the C-pillar at the bottom of the window line....just like the Corsas do

The only problem I have heard of on a saph is on the rear arm if running with coil overs they can fail and is common practice to weld it for extra strength

That's also what I heard... It seems like this is a bluff!

I know the car wasn't abused before me (LOL ) and this was already there before the coilovers.

my brothers sapphire had coilovers on it before he had it and is not cracked there and hes now had it for around 7years or so , but maybe the guy meant the chassis was cracked and the was allowing the shell to bend/move and cracked the area shown?
