Default Another missfire, and other problems...

Today was the first drive after the winter break and it developed a problem over the time. Well, actually two problems.

The first thing is, it cuts out when I am accelerating, around 3000-4000rpm. But thats just random, not all the time.

The 2nd one is, maybe related to the other problem, the engine just turns off. When I am fast enough, I keep in the gear and keep on rolling and after a few seconds the engine pics up again as nothing happend.

Tomorow I`ll change the phase and crank senor as I carry them in my glovebox a year and want to change them anyways.

But maybe some had a similar problem and got a good idea!

it is a 4x4 saff runing P8 Stg 3 MSD

Thanks a lot!

Could be the engine wiring loom multiplugs, mine used to missfire and these were the cause. We cut them out and after that had no more problems!

Hi,

changed the phase sensor today, and it seems the problem is gone! But havent done a bigger test drive yet as the started is fooked now

Nice season start...

The starter motor is working, but the part that pushes the gear out(dont know how it`s called) wont work anymore!

Is that a cosworth special part, or will one from another car/starter fit??

Ok, starter is fixed!

But that misfire is still there, but not occasional as it was, now it is all the time it starts to make some boost around 3000-3500.

Also changed the plugs (gap0.6mm).

Something seems it made it even worse...

maybe not the same but mine did this

cutting in and out /misfiring etc

turned out to be head gasket

the misfire and cutting out was down to water getting on the plugs and killing the spark

Also thougt about the ht leads, As since i touched them it got worse. Ditnt think the New plugs and a New Phase Sensor made it worse.

What Kind of resistance should them leads have ?

edit: those are the Ford Motorsport leads

Gone for a test drive, and I am pretty sure it is not the leads.

It also went pretty well for a while and then it cuts out again.

And as I thougt it was boost-related..it was not. And as it cuts out around 4000, I think it is limp mode.

While normal driving you also notice it doesnt run very smooth, and sometimes a llittle pop on overrun.

Will check them multiplugs tomorow, as mentioned, maybe there is a fault.

If nothing helps, I have to go Wasted spark

Build the diagnostic tester to tell you what faults are stored. It's very useful and only an LED and resistor:

Thanks for the help!

Does this tester also work on the P8 ecus? And I do have an MSD chip fitted, so it seems it wont work at all?!?

edit:had the phase/crank/blue and brown sensors measured for resistance and all are in their tolerance.

A little update!

Build me one of those flash-code readers and it told me the map sensor is at fault.

Measured the wires so there is no fault in there and all where OK.

Then ordered a map sensor, fitted it and everything is fine
