Q. Upgrading internals.?
When replacing 2WD internals, what's the best way to go (within reason). Currently running around the 400hp mark, 200 block 1m oversize (according to my records, not measured personally).
I heard the 4x4 rods are off-set slightly reducing the force on the thrust side of the piston.? How much of a big deal is this.?
Mine currently has +1mm Mahle pistons, would these need swapping to match later rods.?
And finally, are the steel rods like Farndon etc offset too..didnt see any mention of it whilst sniffing about.
cheers, Nik..

If sticking to 7500 rpm and below then all std is fine, the 2wd pistons are offset, the 4wd pistons are offset MORE that's all, to reduce noise when cold, nothing at all to do with thrust forces.
I would use ARP rod bolts and flywheel bolts, and personally at that power would use a Yb 0611 group a gasket, which is now called Victor Reinz 27380 00, this is the exact same gasket just re numbered, along with arp stud and nut kit, shoulder/depth checked upon using.

Cool..
Dont need it to rev past 7500rpm, im more than pleased with power & drivability as it is, because it isn't used 'all the time' the novelty of the grunt doesn't wear off
Looking through the file, it already has ARP bottom end bolts and the stud & nut kit..it's ok to re-use these I take it.?

My engine had done 200,973 miles on the same pistons/rings/shells, the shells looked like new, indeed the 200K mile old thrust bearings were re-used in my new engine build, there little ends showed no signs of wear.
Just goes to show if treated right they will do the mileage, need a good thrashing at least once a month to burn contaminants out of oil.#
For the last 30,000 miles mine was run on 20W50 COMMA MINERAL oil btw.
