Default 2wd/4x4 exhaust manifold question

hi,i have a 2wd sapphire with a 4x4 engine and turbo.the exhaust manifold is 4x4.i want to fit the 2wd manifold to it as its better for more power i have heard?
im not sure what exhaust is on my car,2wd or 4x4.its a nearly new twin pipe magnex system and i dont want to have to buy another 1.if i change manifolds will my existing exhaust fit the onto the back of the turbo the same or will i need to get a 2wd exhaust?
cheers,lee

the system will fit fine 4x4 manifold is really good for turbo response and will only limit power above around 400 bhp

opinions vary mate but the shorter primarys on the 4x4 manifold increase spool up time of the turbo, and i have seen with my own eyes 380bhp+ cars with 4x4 manifolds on.
the 2wd manifold is more popular tho for some reason even in lower powered cars, i myself run the 4x4 manifold as they dont tend to pull exhaust studs out and dont need a damper unless your running a huuuuge turbo lol!

oh and 4x4 inlet is much better than 2wd its got a better shaped neck on it and is a fair bit bigger as well

whats a huge turbo?a t38 or something?i plan a t34 with a .63 exh housing.that isnt going to be a problem?
if theres not much in it then ill stick with my manifold and exhaust, that will save me some ££££

i meant like a t4 or something along those lines
a t34 will be fine with 4x4 mani i would have thought, escos have a very similar turbo as standard and use these manifolds

oh and what power you aiming for? i know a few people swapping thier .63 housings for the smaller .48(i think its 48) housings to lose a bit of lag, allthough lag shouldnt be a problem if mapped properly

dunno.was reading that 380bhp msd conversion thread earlier.seems good value.that uses the .63 housing.then i read somewhere that harvey gibbs uses the .48 and light blues for his 380 conversions.im in no hurry, just seeing whats out there as im sorting out what i have just now so its good to know the 4x4 manifold will do the numbers if need be.

As said the 4wd with shorter primarys would be a much better bet, as well as improving access around the engine that side, under 450 this is what I'd have.
A 380 conversion on a .48 will make a much nicer everyday driving car than a laggier .63, doesn't matter about the mapping a .63 will give more lag due to pure physics, but a live map as opposed to a chip will literally transform any car, may not make more power outright but the sheer driveability will be so so much better.
A 380 .48 conversion will be faster in most situtations than a laggy set up like a .63 apart from above a certain point that you'd rarely use in everyday driving.

it would be mostly for everyday, the 1/4 mile on the rare occasion i go down.dont do track days with it so just something useable and powerful would be good.

The 2wd exhaust manifold has a better top end flow rate, you need one if you are planning to fit a monster turbo as you will need the clearance, eg:a gt30 can not be fitted with a 4x4 exh manifold the turbo would foul the cylinder head

yeah i bought your 2wd manifold off your old car Lee, for my build. I had plans for external wastegate etc so it was required. Change of spec now since its remaining a road car but i'll still use the manifold for a t38

4x4 manifold we change after 450 hp as they get restorative we have seen over 700 on a 2wd one with external waste gate mod.

I will run a 2wd one on my car as its 2wd so it should have the original manifold even if it won't be as good as a 4x4 at my power level !
