i have rewired my fuel pump and used the old live as the trigger.
i thought the ecu triggered that live to tell the pump to work?
as soon as i turn my ignition on i have constant power to the pump whichout turning the engine over.
i thought the pump was supposed to stop untill the engine is turning over??

The original set up is the ecu trips the relay close to the ecu connector then relay powers out to pump itself through cut out switch.

Best way i found was to use the trigger in the old relay connector

what i need to know is..
should the ecu send the signal to the pump as soon as the ignition is switched on and stay on?
or should it stop untill the engine is turning over?

The ecu should send an initial 2-3 second burst for priming first thing in the day, and then dependant on other factors may do so again, seems to be it's mostly engine temp related as to whether it does so or not, after the 2-3 secs without engine running it should stop, and remain stopped until engine cranking and/or running conditions are met.

ok cheers mate, i will check mine again as i thought it was running and not stoping when i turned the ignition on but not sure is the car was warm when i checked it.

My car primes for roughly 5-10 seconds when cold IIRC. Just let it run and see if it cuts out
