Let the fighting begin!!
A very personal thing, they drive totally different esp when being pushed, 2wd massively harder to drive on the limit, but more rewarding(I feel).
Best advice I can give is to drive one of each, 2wd generally cheaper to tune, once you hit 350bhp in a 4wd it gets very expensive compared with stronger 2wd trans.
In an idlea world I'd have switchable 2wd in the dry, and most wet, but if going mental in the wet I'd have 4wd.
RWD doesn't stand for rear wheel drive it stands for RIGHT wheel drive!!

a 4x4 sapph is a very capable car for all weathers and very shore footed with decent suspension a 2wd as said is great fun and will keep you on your toes if driven hard useless in the wet but great fun depends on your driving experience and funds really

there both good cars but i went for a rwd as i think they look better without bonnet vents and the rwd lights also i always wonted to tune mine heavily and rwd drive transmision stands up to power much better and is cheaper when u get to the point of needing to uprate it aswell!. Also with the new rear beams / suspention and tyre set ups now rwd in the dry can be almost as good as 4x4 on the road and is always more fun too in my opinion

depends what you want from it really.
if you cain it all weathers and arnt bothered about power over stage 3 then 4wd
if you like tyre smoke, burnouts and drifting then 2wd
as to which will be quicker, standard 0-60 4wd wins (i think cant remeber off the top of my head), in the wet 4wd wins, in the dry generally 2wd wins
back to the wet vs dry though, youve got to remember that its a ford so any time in the rain and there will be no sills and arches by the time you get home
, and how many people really push it in the wet????
rwd will only step out if you make it

Pretty much every set of test figures I've seen was figured in the dry.
2wd Sapphires usually turned in 5.8/5.9 seconds for the 60 run. 4wd ers were usually a few tenths slower.
Mind you that was mag road testers in a press car

Not this old chestnut again
2wd=boy racer going sideways and doing doughnuts, usually ends up wrapped around the nearest lampost or tree![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
4x4=good grip of the line and you are able to throw it around the twisty bits![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
a mate of mine has just converted his 4x4 saph to a 2wd, he is on his 3rd diff already![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
2wd is not as bullet proof as some people llike to think ![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

I've got pretty much every mag test from when they were new and interestingly enough the 2wd set 90% of the fastest times to 60 and 100.

Stupid questions get stupid answers. Which is faster?? Well there aren't many standard saphs around and there are so many variables in tuning why bother asking a question like this lol. If you want to know the specs of the standard cars than that is different. 2wd is generally lighter due to less transmission weight, but 2wd's are limited by the inferior 205 block.

I'm just in the middle of converting mine to 2wd. I just basically got bored with 4wd and over the years I've driven quite a lot of 2wd's and they do seem to drive nicer to me. Yes, they are a bit more lively at the back end as you would expect but you've just got to learn to respect the car more.
Also a lot easier to work on which is a bonus!!

I personally have 2WD as don't like anything else full stop.
One is not better than the other really, apart from your preference as to which wheels the power is delivered to, the 4x4 has a stronger 200 block, not that the 205 in the 2WD is incapable at sensible power some even run 500+ HP on 205 and there ok, but 2WD has stronger transmission so horses for corses.

Back in the early 90s I drove around 20 before buying mine. Simply put the 4x4 didn't seem as exciting to drive so I got one of the last 2wds. My mate took it to Interpro recently and was amazed by it - he is now converting his 4x4 to 2wd... but that's his choice.

the cossys are about fun!!!
if you wanna go properly quick you buy an rx7 or a skyline.
if you wanna look good you buy 350z or a boxter
but if you wanna be cool and have fun you buy a cossy, and its gotta be 2wd!!
nothing cooler than watching a sapphire on comps come round a roundabout the leave a big number 11 and a cloud of smoke as it exits. lol

a 500bph cosworth is vary rare and costs thousands whereas every other modified skyline has 500+ and costs half the price.
most people dont know about cars remember, if your trying to look good and pull women whatever a z4 or a 350z or boxter etc looks better than a shonky old sierra with a backbox!
and lots of people have rx7's, out of the box they will do a 13 second 1/4 and most have been modified, get to japfest or wherever and almost every rx7 will run an 10,11,12 second 1/4 i will guarantee it.
but the cossys are still more fun
