Just for quarter miles runs should you run your coilovers as hard as possible to avoid squating off the line or have I got this wrong?

i would have thought that would make it fishtail!?

id of thought 60% stiffness maybe depending on the springs youve got etc

the fronts will want to be hard so it doesnt dip when you change gear

EDIT: just had a thought - cossies gain alot of camber when they launch so maybe it needs to be set up hard to avoid this!?

Ideally you want the rear soft enough for weight transfer to the rear to aid grip. You should wind the ride height up, until you start going into abit of positive camber, so that when it does squat, the geometry will be about right! the car will look ridiculous but you wouldnt care when it launchs hard

i always run my back end soft, imo squatting on a RWD/4x4 gives better grip.

It's difficult on a cossie, as on one hand you want the weight transfer on to the rear wheel to help with grip but on the other hand you don't want the rear end to go down too much or else you'll end up with loads of camber. Lee Catermole would be the man to ask, he seems to be able to launch a cossie better than most.

I bet Danny B from Adrenaline ( whio do beams and chassis connectors ) and Lee Cattermole could give you some useful tip and info on this subject. Both of them are past masters of the art of the start in Cosworths aren't they?

Danny used to run a drag style ladder bar set up on his car as well as drag radial tyres, he could launch on the limiter and it would sometimes bog he had that much grip, lol

Think Lee (Tib) used to have his reasonably soft but was also running drag tyres.

Drag radial tyres make sooo much difference to getting off the line, first time using my car at pod in 5 yrs and i was doing 1.9sec 60ft, im sure with a bit more practice i could get this to 1.7secs, also means you don't end up wheel spinning the first 3 gears

as said geometry plays a big part but as someone said above the rear needs to be a bit higher than front and not to hard as will just spin but hard enough not to deck out,also the front needs to be quite hard...
