If you don't wnat to change the pump just yet i'd change the fluid and the belt, but it sounds like the pump to me.

I had the same problem and the bottom bolt on the pump had come out thus loosening the PS belt so it wasn't working properly

Replacing pump is not hard to do, did you not loosen it to change belt? Normally if belt problem it will show itself when under load IE steering whilst moving slowly/tight turn and yes fluid should move when cars idling

didnt have to loosen pump its the single multi-v belt with spring loaded adjuster, steering pump looks like its on the bottom, easily replaced?
sure i didnt see fluid moving when idling, car was cold when checked would that make any difference?
will double check then go in search for a pump

Oh rite I know when I replaced my 2WD one i just loosened pump, when cold the fluid will be thick so the movement may not be noticable as much, but when warm you should be able to see it moving.

The easy way to see if the pump is pumping is simply to remove the return line, and put in a bottle etc temporarily, start engine see if fluid comes out.
It might be worth trying some WYNNS steering system conditioner, as this helps ungum the rollers of the pump.
The viscosity of ATF varies very little with temperature.

I'm sure they are roller pumps on the cossie, but if vane type both can be overhauled really easily.
Other things are blocked valves in the rack on either side, is it easier one way than the other ?
The main problem is the age of the pipes now, as they do deriorate, INSIDE and the bits of lumps that fall off jam up/restrict the one way valves, that shut each time the wheel is turned.

having a similar problem. myn is really noisy and abit lumpy. Its the rack on mine, i changed my pump to na avail. but urs sounds like it may be the pump or a pipe blockage. as silly as it sounds make sure the pipe isnt the wrong type and has creased. its meant to be very firm pipe, if its a soft one like people often put on they bend and kink abit like a hose pipe.

you prob can mate but it prob not much more to get yours overhauled!

You also will not be able to see the valves in your rack needs to be completly stripped etc

i took my power steering pump to DMA and they sent it off cost £75 or sumit like that. but mark yours and make sure that they dont just give it back and charge u, becuase they did with mine. then i sent it back and they free of charge refurbed it.
