Exclamation Alternator question !

I have a std 90amp alternator (saph cosw 4wd) under the hand, and wanted to change for a 150amp one. But thing is they are just a little bit different :

There is 1 connector missing on the 150amp one (as pictured). Could anybody help me there ? Is is really needed or not ?

Cheers lad !

I think that you only need the + battery terminal(bigger thread) and the light indicator (the smaller thread) and from what I can see they are on both of the alternators so no problem...

Yes, well forgot to say there is a small black box which is screwed on the 3 thread on the original 90amp alternator, and there is a small wires going out of that small "box" which is connected to the small connector just under that screw.

The small connector is on the 150amp alternator, but not the screw.

If I remember correct from mine (it is a Bosch alternator correct?) this small black box was tightened by one bolt to the alternator casing and the small wire from it plugs to the "flat" terminal close to the missing thread. Maybe they had modded the alternator before due to some damage I guess?

Yes mate the box is tightened on the bolt which is missing from the 150amp version. So I want to know if I can just mount that box everywhere on the casing and just plug it to the flat connector or can I use the alternator without that black box.

The 150amp alternator is a kit to upgrade to group A specs but with the std casing

yes it is just for earthing so anywhere in the casing should do allthough it is a bit strange because my casing had a specific place to bolt it on close to the bearing nest...

The connector you are missing at the 150 Amp alternator is the W connector.
This W is used by old diesel cars for the rev counter, you do not need it.
Also the little box is a capacitor. It is better you have one, otherwise it will be possible that you hear some alternatornoise through the speakers of your radio.

Thank you, so I'll just connect the capacitor to the casing and that'll be fine !
