Default Bag of poo Sapphire

Hi all.
Bought a 1990 Saff cos with L6 management and 2(!) engine looms.
Removed one loom and installed one very good one.
Now the car runs, but quite lumpy and my old mechanic ear suggests rich.
Anyway, what is the big cause of rich running?Twirling the screw on the L6 seems to make no difference (which way is lean and which is rich??)
Quite enjoying messing with it to be honest, but having it running a bit better would be good for moving it about so I can weld it etc.
BTW cambelt and pulley changed and the rotor arm position is spot on as is the crank and cam timing.
Cheers Colin

It would be a good idea to replace all the sensors first, unless new, especially the CTS.

Right!
Its a 4 wd loom but 2wd engine and an l6 ecu.The tps seems to be a PF01.
A while ago it spewed lots of oil out of breather and I got a bit worried.I have been changing the rocker gasket tonight (its split) and found the oil level is right up the dipstick and smells of petrol from the weeks of getting it going with a fucked loom.
Looks like I've found some of its probs!!!!Basics Judgey, basics!!!!!!!!
Cheers for replies!!!!

Check that the wiring for the water temp sensor (2 pin connector at the back of the head on the passenger side) is OK. Unplug it and pull back the rubber boot and give it a good looking over.

If the wiring looks OK, remove the ECU hairbrush and measure the resistance between pins 11 and 29. Should be around 4500 ohms (engine cold) to 950 ohms (engine warm). If resistance high, change sensor or check wiring again.

if your using a 4x4 loom with an l6 ecu and a 2wd tps you will need to swap the 2 outer wires over if they have not already been done
