Im looking into replacing/strengthening the rear diff mount on my 2wd cosworth.

I dont realy want to pay the £130 for polybushed/Grp A type.

I understand the princples that a tougher bush/support is needed. As the Standard item is rather saggy!!
So can I make a solid bracket rather than a bush?? Eg weld some plates up to rigidly support the Diff?

Has anyone solid mounted the diff? And was it too harsh? Whats your opinions on this?

Has anyone used the uprated polybushed diff mount? Is it any good per pound? Whats your opinions on this?

weld it if you want ,but if its a road car i wouldnt
dont know what power you have but i dont see the point in anything stronger than the polly mount

Got poly bushed one on mine,very good well made mount

Deffo makes a difference,car feels a lot tighter on the back end with it fitted,you can tell how shit the standard diff mount is if you jack up the rear end of the car and watch how much the diff/beam drops down as you lift the car up
Doesn't move with the poly mount fitted

Don't seem to get that horrible shuddering/vibration when wheelspinning now either,just smokes the tyres

interesting... can these polys be bought to fit my standard diff mount??? As I see it.. the mount seems strong enough.

Yeh i thought this. The car is only got a standard engine in it.

Its just the price lol. Will prob just buy the polyed mount in the end.

How easy is it to change ? Are those captive nuts, probably will be seized good & proper Obviously i jack the rear up so both wheels off the ground, were you able to get to all the mounting bolts without removing anything around it & do i put a trolley jack under the diff unit whilst undoing the mounting ?

Step by step would be good

ive got one of them mc2 mounts on mine atm, along with their nylon bush set for the arms, and polly for the rest, massive improvement over the knacked ol ones that were on, heres the link

the solid mount i am sure needs the beam solid mounting too, and would be horrid on a road car

you'd need to drop the diff and the beam to get to the bolts that hold the back of the diff to the mounts i think
and there is normally a rubber bung in the way between the diff and fuel tank too to stop things from getting undone

Bought one for mine...its all fitted up but not had the opportunity to road test her yet Its a great fit and looks very well made...and going on what people have said in the past regarding them, they're worth the money even if it does seem expensive (compare the cost with uprated engine mounts and you'll feel easier handing your cash over for the diff mount lol).

Need to drop diff out to fit,and yeah,they are captive nuts

My rear beam had been dropped before to polybush it before I bought car,and all the bolts had been copper greased luckily

So pretty easy job for me

I filled my bush with window glue from Ford. Works perfect. Cost nada!
Took the gearbox mount in the same way.

I can do most simple stuff myself like changing the exhaust housing on my T34 & fitting big brake kits & the like but i do'nt think i'm upto dropping the rear beam down myself in the garage. If i'm going to fit a Grp A diff mount would it be a wise idea to just have the whole back end poly bushed at the same time to save more work in the future as my front end is poly bushed but the rear has never been touched, if so i think i'll take it to the garage & get it done Is it best to poly bush all the rear bushes or best to replace with the original ford ones bearing in mind the car does about 6 trackdays a year.

You might as well poly bush the whole back end while your at it.
If you can take a turbo apart and fit a Big Brake kit you can drop a rear beam off its just a case of undoing a few bolts in the right order and making sure you don't drop it on you head
The only problem you will have is pressing the old bushes out I had to put 13 Tonne on the one back arm bush to get it out but I have access to a Hydralic press I don't think you could do it with an old socket and a hammer

Regarding the big rubber beam mounts, just hacksaw through the top part of the bush..then push out the big remaining part by hand,dead easy....then grease up the new bush well....i then made a puller similar to the ones you used to be able to buy for sierra rear beam bush replacement....took just 2 17mm spanners to fit the bushes then...job done. See the other post in here regarding rear arm bush replacement as it was a lengthy topic

you can't
you need to get the hwole assembly
then you can buy seperate bushes for it but you need the whole mount first
