Default Starting question ??? cosworth , help

Right on my 2 wd coswoth i have a problem now and then with starting ?

Can go out and about , turn engine on and off and its fine , then sometimes it wont start , sometimes will not even turn over (as if batterys dead)

Whack a set of jump leadfs on it for 2 secs and away she goes

But even when it doesn`t start my batt voltage guage is showing about 12 volts ? and al lights and everything work perfect as in really bright and as normal ? Not long had the car , and had a new battery about 2 months ago

Now even better , this happpened a couple of days ago , and because i couldn`t start it i went on house for a while , came back out and it started ????

The car wasn`t used vey much ?? and not long had it ? But im thinking battery ?? but because its quite new im having doubts ?

Any suggestions really appreciated !

starter motor, wiring to starter, or earth from bellhousing to battery - check/replace all 3

if lights etc are OK, it's not the battery

I had this problem with my old sierra. Check the main starter motor terminal and the starter cable and both conectors at the ends for signs of corrosion and give them a good clean up. Or even replace the cable if its realy damaged. Just make sure your getting a good electrical joint.

So rule out the battery then , will give the starter a good check asap

Surely cant be immobiliser , if a jump fires it up though ?

I'm so glad I've found this forum / post

Had the same problem on my 3 door intermittantly ... got to the stage where I stressed it would not start when I was far from home. I would turn the key to start and all lights would be on but the starter would not crank

Finally the car let me down after a 12 hour night shift at work ... turn the key and nothing. I did the walk away and try again later and she just didn't want to start. So I asked the boys for a push start and drove home with the engine control light on.

I found this thread, got under the car and cleaned up the connections (all of) on the starter and she came good (I used wet and dry, made sure all electrical connections were bare metal and shiny and sprayed with a good electrical/contact cleaner ... the good gear from work ). I didn't clean up the main earth to the bellhousing but it looks pretty shitty and I can see how it could have been my problem ... I've saved that job for another day (I've choosen to make up another lead and replace it) ... but the old 3 door has been spot on ever since.

As a side note ... my digital clock / timer hasn't worked since I had to jump start the car a while ago and now after the clean up and the resultant jump start she works
