Coil pack conversion
Can any body please help me im about to start getting the gear together to do the coilpack conversion on my 3dr and ive got a couple of questions id like answering if poss
1/ Can I run an L8 or does it have to be a L6 ?
2/ Do I have to run the Ford coil pack or can I run a MSD blaster coil (part no 8241) from the USA ?
3/ Whos systems do away with the dizzy unit and were do they use a timing pick up from eg, cam or crank or other ?
Any help would be much appreciated
Kev

if you can get the kit from Stu, you can use either L1, L6 or L8 as it's an add on board
have you already got an L8? if so, i would go for the RP Lab conversion
you could use any type of coil pack in theory, but it depends on how it's triggered. some are triggered high, and some low. and you may have to look at different amplifiers for the MSD
you need a phase sensor of some sort, as you do not know enough information from the crank position only. the phase sensor must be driven from the camshaft drive (which includes the dizzy as they all turn at half the speed of the crank). so you can either use the phase sensor in the dizzy but just cap it off with something, or you can fit a sensor to a cam. there's a topic all about it in the technical essays archive (you need gold membership access to read it which will cost you £20 but could easily save you that much if you read up on things before spending out on things)

Zoo motorsport do the kit to convert the cam.
that would in theory enable you to blank off the dizzy then they Also
do the bit for that i think (gotta be a bit special as you still need to drive
the oil pump from the blanking plug i think)

The MSD coil pack I mentioned is supposedley a direct replacement for the OE Ford type in the USA but would hopefully produce a better spark.
Im not running an L8 at current but im deffinetley thinking of going that way.
Where can I find more info on the PR Lab conversion ?
Thanks Kev

RP Lab have a website
http://rptune.eu.org/
but it doesn't mention anything about the simple conversions like adding coilpack. email them from the link on the website and ask about it, and say that you heard about them from me on PassionFord
