Newbie - Just bought Puma 1.7 - Problems at 4000 revs!
Hi guys! Hoping someone can reassure me! Having hit a mid life crisis, I finally snapped and bought that Puma I have been dreaming about for the last 10 years...oh and you can get the kids in the back!! Was as cautious as I possibly could be in buying it and checked for all the problem areas recommended here...pretty much everything seemed fine. 51000 miles X reg...bit of an issue about the advertised "full" service history as nothing appeared to have been done to it since 2004...but then again it had only driven 12000 miles since then and the dealer promised to service it for me and check everything over. Ummed and aaahhed about it a bit because of its slightly unusual life but in the end finally paid up yesterday and Mr Dealer siad that during promised service they replaced the CAM belt and Water pump using Ford parts and 5w 30 oil...so all good...although at the price I paid (£2800) I am surprised that he was left with much profit!
Now having drive it for about 100 miles on various types of road I have
discovered that a smidgen before I hit 4000 revs certainly in either 4th or 5th gear then the kangaroo hopping starts....every single time without fail. Cranking it up briefly to 90 and 4.3K revs and it seems OK again and it seems to run absolutely fine at revs below this. I seem to remember somewhere reading that the VVT thingy does something at these sort of revs....could it possibly be something to do with that does anyone think?
Thanks
