Engine management light
i run a st estate 2.2 with fsh 69k and no map mods, have fitted a digi mafam and removed innards in the diesel cat.. recently after parking up for 4 hours the return journey showed a eml illuminated which was likely the egr playing up, it has been partly blanked, with a plate after cleaning it last spring at 59 k, i had a friend check and it came up with poor egr value on his snap on reader, but no codes logged ,so not wanting to spend on a new egr when it wasn't getting much work having no innards in the canister at the turbo i decided to ring a specialist with good recommendations from a trusted tuner i know, result he couldn't get into the main management computer but obd read the same fault as my chum poor flow at the egr valve, mine is the electronic euro 4 type. car still returns approx 45 mpg, more on a run and has good power, no smoke ..when i removed it last week it was not blocked some crap evident but not seized, there was however signs of water having been in the area of the electrics which are part of the euro 4 type, i know this eml can possibly be switched off by someone who could access the main system, the guy was very knowledgeable, but on electronics, and remapping, imo he was not that au fait with the egr system and wittered on about helping cold starts etc etc..what do i do next??. i'm not an innocent, but my experience is with conventional fuel tuning not turbo diesel electronics..

The first thing I would do would be to remove the Digi mafam. If you've got a dodgy MAF, replace it.
Also if the EGR was blanked, even partially that would account for the fault code. So,
not really sure what you want answering.
No one (to my knowledge) has been able to remove the EGR function from the Euro4.

Thanks for your input, digi mafam has been in situ since feb last year,on second setting only, 12mm hole blanking plate also, 6 months later innards of soot canister at turbo removed, car immediately went better sharper and easier on fuel, from my research the eml should have come on sooner than last week, everything is clean, egr , oil ,fuel filters etc.. and as i said it runs well currently, i'm amazed that no one has come up with a electronic workaround to solve this situation, it looks from where i am now that i buy a cheap obd scanner and shut the light off whenever..am i to understand that there is no way of switching the electronic sensor in the main system which drives the need to open the egr on euro 4 cars.. or is mine 3.5 euro..its 2006 registered and built.. will

I'd be inclined to either remove the blanking plate completely, and remove and clean the EGR itself every few months, or fit a solid plate. A 12mm hole is still going to let a lot through it (hence why it took a long time for the EML to come on!)
