the engine bay is very cramped on the 4-pot mondy's, never mind the v6 ones!

there is a long snakey pipe goes from the pas tank to the pump which is known to fray and leak, but it isnt a very common prob.

more likely PAS leaks on the mondeo's are usually due to a dodgy steering rack, or the pas cooler (behind the bumper) rusts and leaks. if it is the latter, it is very easy to fix (and they cost approx £60 for a new one from ford), if yours needs a new steering rack the sub-frame has to be dropped and it is a very big job.

a recon rack is about £120, but i had one fitted on mine and it started leaking within 6 months. a new genuine ford rack is about £350-400 i think.

see if you can replace them yourself or go to a cheaper garage, ford dealers will charge silly money and it isnt worth paying full whack on an older car.

removing the front bumper might make it alot easier job?

It would be worth try some wynns power steering stop leak first, this swells the seals, even if it only gets you another year, it's extra time to save up!!
I've used this loads on auto boxes that have lost pressure, and had another 3-5 years use from some that are just down to worn/old seals inc me gf car at the mo, it got the reverse gear back as it wouldn't before, but is 16 years old.

alot of places charge silly money for doing mondeo clutches.

round here the labour is about £250-300, some places its more like £400-600!

Mr Clutch at Leeds will do them for £180 supply and fit but they are recon units, i know someone who got one there and had no probs. or they may let you provide your own.

or find a decent mechanic who does stuff on the side, but be sure he knows his stuff because if the subframe isnt aligned right it wont work properly.

Yeah pas cooler pipe easy enough, whip of the under tray (if its still there !) and then from the top you need to undo 2 small bolts that hold it in place, it is tight and really only a 1/4 turn each time but you'll get there. Two rubber pipes connect to the cooler with the type of clips you need to squeeze open and move away, replace these with jubliee clips. You may find it easier to put the 2 bolts back in place from underneath then tighten from above. You will end up with red knuckles !
