Default stuck for ideas

Hi all just after some peoples views and advice.

I currently own a 2002 focus st170. Im in abit of a dilema as the clutch has started slipping. Ive been quoted 750 for a new clutch and flywheel fitted by a mate. And also the tax runs out at the end of the month. This will total to over a grand needing to be spent on it and im abit unsure on if it is worth me spending this amount. The car has a fair few dinks and 102,000 miles on the clock.

On the other hand it has had a fair amount spent on it already with a years mot. Full service . 4 new tyres discs and pads all round and a full mk1 focus rs interior.

So im debating if its best to either spend the money on it,

Or maybe sell up and put the grand aswell as a little bit more money towards something else.

The cars only used at weekends so i could get a nice little mk5 zs and save a fair chunk on tax and insurance aswel as general running costs

Or get something like a ep3 ctr etc etc as i hear cost around the same to run as the 170 which is supposed to be expensive to run compared to other faster cars

Help advice and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks

Ive thought about breaking it but havnt got the time or space. How much can a 170 fetch roughly when breaking? I quiet like the thought of a st220 but am guessing that there very expensive to run with a 3 litre v6

if your weighing up the costs, then its time to get rid, what if you do the clutch and fly wheel, then something else goes? you'll be stuck having to spend money on it.
personally i'd get rid as you'll grudge every penny you spend on it.

on the other hand if you like the car and enjoy driving it, then keep it and fix it, but forget everything you spend on it. when you add up the costs and they far out weigh the cos to the vehicle then you'll allways be on a downer

clutch and tax pricing on a st170 is simply a joke as you can pick up half decent ones for Ł1000-1500 now without issue, sell as and disclose faults or when tax runs out you will have to break it,

Personally I think if you enjoy it then keep it, as at least with every thing you replace you will then know that part's been replaced and that it's in good working order as opposed to buying something else which will be an unknown quantity. I think that's a lot of money for a clutch in one of those. I had a Mk2 RS clutch and flywheel fitted in my Mk2 Focus ST for roughly the same money. At the end of the day it's up to you but I've spent money on cars myself in the past getting them right and then sold up and looking back regretted it, as I'm then in for another laundry list of problems with something else as I don't know what has or (more often than not) hasn't been replaced with good parts. Whichever way you choose to go, good luck
