Default Mk1 focus rs power steering problem

Was dring home and a horrible noise started from the car a kind of whiring noise gets noisier when you turn the steering wheel checked the reservoir and its at its min but when you start it it all disappears had quick look about only possible leak that I might see is from the bottom section of the little cooler pipe that sits in front of th rad in sure though as its really wet and stuff.
If the pump is shot is it the same pump as an st170 or is it rs only and if it is the pipe that's leaking where will I get one best to go to ford?

Check on the RSOCBB for the best answer BUT the racks are bespoke to the car so you need get a FRS specific one - EBAY, £152 currently... Ford £1k.

The metal pipe will be rotten mate, I know graham at car parts express does the pipe (not cheap) as for pump you can use a normal 2.0 focus one but you need to block off the extra outlet, that's what I've done when my pump went.

Bloke at work had similar on his 1.8 mk1 focus. Had a little leak somewhere and the pump was noisy. Topped the fluid back up to maximum and the noise went away, but came back when the level dropped again. Chucked in some PAS system stop leak which cured the leak then with the level full it stopped making a noise. The leak didn't reappear for the next couple of years he had the car.

I've just changed the pipes on mine. Speak to graham at carpartsexpress.co.uk as he usually has these on the shelf. You can use an ST170 pump if needed but once refilled with oil you should lose the noise.

Thanks mate will do. Are you best to remove the bumper to do it or can it be done with it still on. Did you change the full pipe or just the peice with the flare nuts. Can it be bought seperate
Saw a stainless steel version for £ 60 on the net.
