MK2 Focus upgrade
Hi guys, i have been lurking here unregistered for a while, until now, i previously had an ST170 until about 10 months ago when my wife insisted it had to go due to my son being born, she never like the "harsh" ride, seeing as we couldn't afford 2 cars, i had to replace it with something more rib friendly.
I ended up with a MK2 Focus climate 1.6!
The time has come for me to drop in a 2litre Zetec as i'm sick of the ball-less performance of the 1600, i've seen 145bhp straight from the factory engines being sold on ebay, but before i dive in i need to know if anyone here knows how easy it will be to make this conversion, will it drop straight in or will it require some mods? would i be just as well finding an ST170 engine and dropping that in?
Thanks in advance. Scott.
PS 145 isn't enough either, i do plan on making some changes to that too lol.

Difficult and certainly not a 'Drop in job' at least it is with the Zetec engines this is due to the exhaust and inlet being on opposing sides and so this means you need to change the exhaust as well.
The new Duratec 2.0 I think has the manifolds the same so it may be easier, I.E Inlet at the front and exhaust at back as you look, you then need the ECU, reprogram keys etc, and possibly the suspension may need changing as well.
This is just a few things that spring to mind and not an exhaustive list by any means.
Normally people don't bother for these reasons and buy a 2.0 outright.
Have you thought about tuning the current SE engine, 145HP is doable, however it's not cheap, look at Shaw speed for more info.

Thanks for the response guys!
Martin, i have looked into tuning the 1600 but i ultimately need long term, every day use, and 145 isn't really what i'm after, at the end of the day i want close to 200, bulletproof, horses, with as much torque as possible. I should have bought the 2.0 but at the time the 16 was all i could afford, but i have since had a work promotion and i do enjoy the car's practicality, i want to keep it, and it's sleeper appearance, perhaps a discreet bodykit. For ease of work i will take your advice and look into the Duratec, i know Cosworth built a few hot versions a few years ago.
I took out a loan of 10K for this, i don't know if that will be enough to do everything but it should be enough to secure a 2.0 Duratec. I am confused as to which ones are Zetec and which are Duratec, i know when i had the ST170 it said Duratec, but it was actually a Zetec, so which car/shop should i look for to provide the engine to make sure i get a proper Duratec?.
How much are you asking for the ST Fido? i got 3 and a half for mine when i traded it in.

I did think of that myself, problem is they are very common round these parts, i want something that will make people go WTF??!! you know what i mean? if i was to spend the 10K on any ford other than this one it would be a saph cosworth, always been a dream of mine to own one one day.
I really want something that has been created, not as intended, but looks like it could have come from a dealership, that really floats my boat.
If i could afford it i'd trow a YB in there and make it a FoCos, Andy Gallagher's shop is not too far from me, and the motorway blast back would be fun!

So you have 10k to spunk on it, yet can't afford another car? Something doesn't add up! Use the 10k to get another car instead of messing about with the focus!

I couldn't afford the 2 litre back when i bought the 1600, now i make more money i wanted to mod my 1600, but it would appear the easier route would be to sell the 1600 and buy a 2 litre and start from there. Adds up perfectly to me.
