2.0 ghia vs 2.0 st170
Basically i've got a 2.0 ghia focus (i think it has 130bhp) how would i make it match the bhp of a st170 or this not worth doing considering the money needed to get the power.

yeah i agree, 150 bhp is about all you'll see with bolt on mods then you'll need to change the cams and go to T/Bs to see more really.
150ps will see you keeping up with most st170s though.
thats assuming all ghias have quite a short ratio MTX box like my ghia estate does so its pretty quick through the cogs(it does 130 on my gps very close to 6k in 5th)

Seem to have been writing this for a lot of members recently...I recommend the following in this order:
1) ST170 4-2-1 Manifold or similar by Millitek or Piper
2) Full cat back from Millitek, Piper, Scorpion, Blueflame, Magnex etc.
3) Enclosed induction e.g BMC CDA or Pipercross Viper. Alternatively source a ST170 airbox complete or just the bottom half, ST170 snorkel and 2.0 auto air deflector and fit a K&N panel filter.
4) Evolution Chip flash map or Dreamscience. Don't recommend Bluefin.
The above should see a PROVEN 140-150bhp. 150+bhp if you have a very strong engine (or if the dyno is feeling a bit generous)

I know it's boring, but have you thought about selling the 2ltr to buy an st170, as most of the parts you'll probably be wanting to fit are already on the st.
I've been really interested in fitting an st manifold, and would also like to uprate the brakes, suspension and interior, which led me to thinking that an st170 would probably end up being the cheaper option in the end.
I know this is only my first post, but I'v been reading quite a bit on the forum, and do know a few things about mod'd/performance motors, so please don't give me too much shit.

The problem from what i've heard on here and other forums is that a lot of st170s only have around 150bhp and cost around £3k more than a standard 2.0. So if you pay for mods on a 2.0 you you match a st170 for less. Also i've only just bought my 2.0 ghia about a month ago so i'll probs be keeping for a few years yet lol.

horses for courses but i do think teh ST command quite a large premuim over the 2litre considering relatively small performance gains.
Go with the Pani_K's list thats eaxctly wot i plan to do with mine, bluefin aren't that bad either but you will need to get it RR'd and the map adjusted at least once lol.

I wouldn't want to deter anyone from modifying their car, I just think that most area's have been made to suit the power on an st, and the resale would see you loose less money than on a mod'd 2ltr.
Having said all this, I always liked modifying to my own needs, and many of the aspects which the st is superior in, may not matter to you.
Do you just want to match the power, because I've seen a few posts from people who claim to be matching st170 performance from 2ltrs with pretty much pani_k's list.

some are less than other from what every1 sayd.
but i havent got a clue what mine is running.
best thing i can think of its taking it to a rolling road and get them to tune it. SIMPLE

Personally i don't think the st170 worth the extra £3k, i mean if you don't like modding that's ok but the standard 2.0 isn't a far cry from the st170. If you want a fast standard mk 1 i would save up and get an RS.

i have a 2l w reg zetec with focus central 4-2-1 (looks identical to milltek on the pics but dunno about bore size), milltek cat back (for the 2l which is 2 1/4 inch iirc rather than 2 1/2 in for the st170), magnecore kv85 leads (i recomend as mine runs smoother with them) and k&n pannel with uprated cold air feed to air box (chopped the fins of the intake on the box and hose cliped some flexi tube on going to lower grill.
she made in march 117bhp at the wheels, 149bhp at the fly (21% transmition loss - that seem a bit high or not for an mtx75 box??) and peak torque was about 150 lbft
the rolling road was done at aldon automotive who also have an engine dyno which they can use to see how accurate the rollers are and aparently the figures are pretty darn close.
all this btw is on the standard map and i recomend the st170/st170 knuckles with mondeo mk3 callipers brake upgrade.
next step to get st170 power would be custom remap and that should see about 160 and with cams 170+bhp but that i think is the limit of the standard intake manifold from what i've heard.
i personally (if and when funds allow) will be going throttle bodies with stand alone engine management next and see what i can get out the standard engine and then try some cams. should get somewhere near 185-190bhp maybe.
oh and my engine has coverd almost 104k...they only get better with age these zetec e's, just regularly service them 8)
