Default Puma engine in mk1 focus??

Hello guys,
I have a good focus shell 3door with a well blown 1.4 ive removed that and have a chance of a tuned 1.7 puma complete but damaged as the 1.7 is only a few horses down as std on the 2.0 zetec i was thinking of using it.. is this worth doing?? I was wondering about the gearboxes is the puma cable operated or rod etc any thoughts much appreciated...

Ah yes the 1.7 is tuned to 150bhp is it worth the hassle???

Sounds like a lot of hassle to be honest. Guessing it's a racing puma spec engine if it's up to 150?? You'll need different engine mounts, the gearbox is different-ib5 as opposed to mtx75 i think (not sure how this differs with the cables/rods but might mean you need different driveshafts) pumas also run the variable cam timing and I'm assuming you'd have to run it on a racing puma ecu and loom. Could put any engine you want in for that much messing about. You can get an st170 lump for less than a grand and I'd imagine they just drop straight in.

A lot more tuning potential in the zetec and duratec engines than the SEs

Should fit ok. They put the focus 1.4s in the pumas, so the 1.7 should fit without toooooo much bother!

SE mate, as is the 1.6 focus Mk1. the Mk5 fiestas all use Se's to as do pumas

E's are the 1.8 & 2l focus's and mondeos i beleive

thats why i reckon itll be easy to do, and if its only £400 if it all goes wrong itll break for more than that anyway

wouldn't hurt the se is a great little engine out the box, just so so revvy even stock, was great fun in a fiesta dunno how rapid a focus would be with one in though as they're not very torquey

I picked the car up and the damage hardly warranted the car being taken off the road so i flogged it to my brother he's using it now it goes well tho fairplay....Problem is i still have an empty space in the front of my focus lol...

I could sell you an frp engine. Wouldn't be as cheap as your last one though Plenty of cheap fiesta zs engines on fleabay. As I was talking shit when I said they weren't very tuneable you can get 210 brake out of them with throttle bodies, cams, management etc

still go for a 2.0 duratec / zetec myself though. Plenty of torque for the extra weight of the focus

Just done this conversion went very smoothly as the blocks are extremely similer, just need to modify drivers side mount as had to use the focus one also need to swap round power steering pump.
