My 52 ST170 will die if you throw it into a right hander with less than a qtr tank of fuel.....seems a common thing on the Focuses as I test drove another to check and it was the same. Must be the fuel pick up in the tank is on the right hand side of the tank so it cant pick up when cornering. It wouldnt solve the loss of power at high revs though....?

mine only does it when it's just under a quarter tank or just before the petrol light comes on then it gets worse and worse till i fill it up. Never did this when i first got it 6 months ago just randomly started happening. Bloody annoying esp if u have someone up ya arse and the car loses power lol

There's something wrong in your system then as when the tank is full or got more fuel if the problem doesn't arise then it means something is wrong in the system not necessarily the fuel pump.

Not off the top of my head mate, I'll dig up some old threads on the FFOC regarding this as this has cropped up before.

Maybe try with it turned off.

accidentally I came across this problem at Focaljet:

I have had the stumbling a few times but not if I keep it over 1/4 tank. I will get it done before my 10 year expiration. I do not know off hand what years this special service covers.
I'm trying to get info from Ford if they recognize this as a fault and will they replace the fuel pump - if you have any way to check for yourselves - do it - if several cars with the same problem will show up, maybe there's a chance for a free service

my fuel filter is almost new... I experience the problem only when fuel is below 1/4 and only on hard turns (on track), so actually it happens very rare... but if Ford would be willing to replace the pum after some paperwork - no problem

paperwork meaning some letters/emails to Ford or Ford Europe...
by the way - if they consider this a factory fault, I don't think the 10 years limit would apply
