Default How can I identify 1.6 engine?

Hi All,

First post to the group.
I took ownership of a 1.6 2006 Focus Climate on Monday. I have to say it's a lovely car to drive.
I was curious to know which type of engine it has. I believe there are 2 types and 100 bhp and 115 bhp.
Could you tell me the easiest way to find the details or identify the unit please.
I haven't got the log book as the dealer has sent it to be updated and to be honest I never asked him which engine was fitted.
Am I also right in thinking the lower power unit has a cam chain and the 115 a belt?
Many thanks.

New shape focus? Should all be chain cam. There will be a sticker somewhere in the engine bay with the power output, its on the cam cover on the mondeos, look there!

Usually there's a big "16" cast on the side of a 1.6 block. Unless that stopped at some point... But with modern engine bays it can be hard to see the block

You can check by looking at the cam cover. If it is pretty much completely flat it is 100.

If there is a raised section naer the cam cover I'd say it was a 115 Ti-VCT engine?

Either way, none of the petrol 1600s are chain driven. They are belt.

Dubble cam sensors and two solenoides on the cover would be the 1.6 115bhp.

Thanks for the replies.

I will have a look tomorrow but if the 1.6 has a timing belt rather than a chain I may get it changed as a precaution.

No need to especially as its a fairly new car, the Ford recomendation for a change is 100,000 miles although not to be taken as gospel.

Sometimes on higher millage cars the tensioners have been known to fail.
